Chemical Intelligence Comments on US Methanol Contract Mechanisms

In the last decade a large proportion of small volume sales were tied to contract benchmarks, posted prices or report indexes, although many distributors and resellers reported they expect to reduce their contract commitments and correspondingly increase their spot exposure in the next few years as domestic availability improves and sources of supply diversify. However established indexes will remain the standard way in which buyers and sellers enter into contractual relationships. My goal with this short whitepaper is to examine graphs of price histories compiled by Chemical Intelligence that show the variation between contract price averages, spot barges and select regional spot prices.
